Caring For Your Hair Extensions
Sometimes we just don’t want to settle for what nature gave us, and we want to change our appearance to one that we feel is more appealing! While modern advances in medical science have greatly increased what cosmetic surgery can do for people to help them look as they desire, there is one part of the body that is easy to change, and nearly everyone does so at some point in their life! We are talking about hair, of course! The hair salon and barber business is a billion-dollar-plus global industry, people from all walks of life regularly make use of their services for hair cuts, dye jobs, and to have curls added or straightened out!
All of those practices require changes be made to your natural hair, and it takes time to grow it out to achieve certain looks and styles, and sometimes we just can’t produce enough of it naturally to pull off the desired effect! Luckily, there is an easy answer to that problem, the application of premium black hair extensions can give you the look you want instantly by adding however much length and volume you want!
Today’s hair extensions look and feel like your natural hair, and just like what nature gave you, they need to be properly cared for, and doing so can help them to last for as long as a year!
So, what constitutes “proper care”?
Brushing – It is recommended that you gently brush your hair extensions throughout the day in order to prevent any tangling from happening and to help the scalp’s natural oils be distributed through the hair. Start at the bottom and slowly work your way up so you don’t put tension on the attachment points and cause breakage. Only brush your hair extensions when they are dry. Remember, it isn’t a wig!
Washing – Don’t wash your hair every day, about twice a week is enough. Overdoing the washing will dry out your scalp, which can cause issues with your natural hair the attachment points- scalp care is hair care! Use a sulfate-free, hydrating shampoo and conditioner. Don’t use hot water, it can cause drying, warm water will help you retain moisture. Rinse very thoroughly to avoid leaving residue.
Conditioning – After rinsing you can use a special “leave-in” conditioner to lock in the moisture and add an extra layer of protection. Comb the product in using a wide-tooth comb.
Masking – Replace your leave-in conditioner with a quality mask once a week to provide deep conditioning and to repair any damage from brushing and heat styling. A good mask will penetrate the cuticles so the hair will feel soft and be manageable with a nice bounce. Masks also protect your hair colour and shine.
Nighttime Care – Friction from the pillow while sleeping can damage hair extensions, making them dry and tangled. Be sure to wear a nightcap to protect them! Silk is the best material.
We hope this brief guide will help you to enjoy your hair extensions throughout the year, and keep them looking fabulous!
